10 Ideas Of What To Bring When Visiting A New Mom
It can be hard to know what to bring when visiting a new mom, especially if you don’t have kids yet or have your babies. But every new parent needs help and support in the first few weeks after their baby’s birth, so try to find some time in your schedule to stop by with a gift or an offer to help out. Here are ten ideas of what to bring when visiting a new mom and her baby.
1. Personal care items (body wash, lotion, etc.)
It is always nice to bring something for the new mom that she might not have on hand. This doesn’t necessarily have to be expensive, but it will help her feel more like herself and less like visitors are cuddling her. You can buy a new mum hamper, including personal care items from Mamajewels.
2. Comfortable clothes
Her clothes must be comfortable and easy to move in. If she is not comfortable with what she’s wearing, it may be hard for her to focus on the baby’s needs. So you can bring some comfortable clothes for your new mum.
3. Showers gifts (soap, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, etc.)
If you visit, one of the best ways you can help is by bringing some of the little things she needs that might be hard for her to get immediately. Some of my favorite things to bring are soaps, shampoos, conditioners, and a body wash. I like presenting them in a lovely basket or container with tissue paper or fabric.
4. Baby Items
You can also bring baby items like baby washcloths, pacifiers, diapers, and blankets. These baby items are a must for a new mum, so you can get these all to make her happy.
5. Clothing for the baby
- Blanket with soft fabric and no loose strings or tags
- Cotton sleepers with snaps for easy diaper changes
- Hat, mittens, and booties for cold weather
- Bibs for drooling babies
- Socks that stay on little feet
- Swaddling blanket for newborns and young babies
6. A Box of Chocolates
Chocolates are sweet and tasty and come in many flavors that can suit any person’s taste. Chocolates also usually come in small, bite-sized pieces, which are great when visiting new moms who may not have much time to eat. So it’s a good idea to add in the new mum hamper.
7. Comfort Items
- Pillowcases and sheets in cheerful colors, like yellow, blue, or green
- Favorite books or magazines that they can read while they are on the couch recovering from childbirth
- Nursing pads and nursing bras if they have not received them yet as a gift from friends
8. Toys for the Kids
Having a few toys on hand for kids when visiting someone new is always nice. Kids are always looking for ways to entertain themselves; the more options they have, the better. Some ideas might include crayons, coloring books, stickers, sidewalk chalk, or bubbles.
9. Baby Bump Balm
Some people may not think baby bump balm is an important item to bring when visiting a new mom. However, I believe that it should be on your list.
10. Flower vase
Consider bringing a flower vase or some other simple decoration that the new mom can reuse as they settle into their new home. Simple touches like flowers, plants, and decorative bowls will help brighten the room and make it feel more like home.
