For months in the United States, Instagram has been in the spotlight of many for its use policies regarding young people. In Spain, there has been news about accusations against the platform of unprotecting the most vulnerable people who use its social network. Little by little, the platform is implementing security options by filtering the most sensitive content.
Soon, as Instagram has announced, new accounts for teens under the age of 16 will have the most restrictive Control of sensitive content set by default. This Control is the one that most limits the observation of sensitive content on Instagram, and it will be active by default in said accounts.

Soon, as Instagram has announced, new accounts for teens under the age of 16 will have the most restrictive Control of sensitive content set by default. This Control is the one that most limits the observation of sensitive content on Instagram, and it will be active by default in said accounts.
This, on paper, will make it more difficult for the most impressionable young people to find content or accounts that can upload content that is not recommended for them. This Control will apply to Search, Explore, Hashtag Pages, Reels, Source Recommendations, and Suggested Accounts.
Instagram will filter more content.
To understand this movement, we must understand what Instagram Sensitive Content Control is. It has three options: “More”, “Standard”, or “Less”, and determines the level of Control that the social network establishes over sensitive or confidential content. All accounts over the age of 16 have “Standard” as the default filter.
“More”, on the other hand, allows users to see more content and accounts that include more adult content, and “Less”, on the other hand, indicates that the Control will be more severe, and users with it activated will see less of this type of content. . For people under the age of 18, the “More” option is not available.
But what about the accounts of children under 16 actives before the update? Instagram will send a notice asking them to activate the “Less” option, although it does not go into assessing what they will do with these accounts if these users do not accept to change to said option.
In addition, as of today, the Sensitive Content Control will cover all surfaces where there are recommendations. You’ll control content in Search, Reels, Followable Accounts, Hashtag Pages, and Feed Recommendations .
Alongside this, Instagram has announced that it will show prompts to those under the age of 18 to review their settings, including controlling who can share their content, who can message them and what content they can see, as well as how to manage time. What happens in the app?
